Abstract:

What is good for the economy can have a detrimental effect on social inclusion and the environment—in terms of pollution, climate change, and the depletion of limited natural resources. In this context, the EU-funded SPES project examined the relationship between economic growth, human well-being, and sustainability. More specifically, it examined the pillars of sustainable human development—productivity, equality for all, environmental sustainability, and participation—and conducted an in-depth analysis of their performance in Europe and the Global South. SPES developed communication and impact assessment strategies, involving an international committee of stakeholders and a scientific advisory board.
