We are thrilled to announce that TÁRKI able to secure funding for the next two rounds of the Hungarian fieldwork of the International Social Survey Programme (ISSP). The project will be delving into two crucial themes over the next two years, which will now be financed by the Hungarian Scientific Research Fund (OTKA, K_147571). The first leg of our research, slated for 2024, focuses on national identity and attitudes towards citizenship. Following this, in 2025, we will turn our attention to the complex intersection of digital technologies, access, and their socio-political implications.
TÁRKI has been an active participant in ISSP surveys since 1985, establishing a legacy of contributing to international comparative research. The 2024 and 2025 surveys mark a continuation of this commitment. Questions pertaining to national identity and citizenship have been integral to ISSP waves in previous years, allowing for valuable comparisons with past findings.
The 2024 survey on national identity and citizenship covers an array of topics—from national pride and conditions for belonging to a nation, to immigration and immigrants, and attitudes towards globalization in culture, politics, and the economy. It delves into citizenship status, civic rights and responsibilities, satisfaction with democracy, evaluation of institutions (including corruption and their service to citizens' interests), social trust, efficiency, the political left-right spectrum, media use in politics, and societal populist attitudes.
As we embark on this research journey, we anticipate shedding light on these critical issues and contributing valuable insights to the global discourse on national identity, citizenship, and the evolving digital landscape. Stay tuned for updates on our progress and findings!
