Explore the nuances of Hungarian migration policy in this chapter, which delves into the period from 2015 to 2021 and examines the transformation of solidarity amidst the mass inflow of refugees. It sheds light on the complex interplay between state-level measures such as border controls and fencing, and the spontaneous solidarity efforts by NGOs and volunteers. The chapter extends its analysis to the present, examining the lingering ambivalence of solidarity towards Ukrainian refugees post-2022 and the initial phase of institutionalization of temporary protection in Europe.
