New post-doc position in TÁRKI Social Research Institute

The Budapest based TÁRKI Social Research Institute Inc. invites applications for a Post-doctoral Researcher position for the duration of 4 years (in the first instance) from 1 June 2024 (or as soon as possible thereafter).

The successful applicant will work on the Demographic Change and the Intergenerational Persistence in Homeownership in Europe (DECIPHE) which is a comprehensive study of whether and how demographic changes in Europe impact the intergenerational persistence of homeownership – the chances of being in homeownership if parents were homeowners –, considering variations across countries, regions, and birth cohorts. The project will be led by Philippe Lersch (DIW, Berlin) and includes partner institutions CED Barcelona, Oxford University and TARKI Social Research Institute. The successful candidate will directly work with Márton Medgyesi, senior researcher at TÁRKI.

The postdoctoral researcher at TÁRKI Budapest will contribute to the above mentioned objectives in close cooperation with senior researchers by carrying out various tasks including: construction of a macro-level database, preparation of Hungarian survey data collection, survey data analysis, drafting publications, organisation of a stakeholder meeting etc.

Remuneration: by agreement, within the range of the budget of the project.

Essential requirements:

• excellent graduate degree in sociology or a related social science

• completed PhD (or close to completion) in area related to comparative research in social stratification, social demography

• interest in social stratification, social demography, wealth inequality

• excellent skills in quantitative survey data analysis (knowledge of Stata is an advantage)

• record of high-quality scientific publications

• excellent communication, presentation, and writing skills in English. Knowledge of Hungarian is an asset.

• ability to work both independently and as part of an international team

The job is envisioned as full-time job, on site at TÁRKI. Upon agreement, remote work is also possible. The job may require travel to the partner institutions.
